RECIPE INGREDIENTS
» For Roti Churma
- Roti dough for approximately 3 thin rotis.
- 2-3 tablespoons sugar or jaggery powder
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 3-4 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios)
RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS
» Cook Roti
- Roll the dough, and dip it in dry flour, then roll it to make a thick roti.
- Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat. Place the rolled roti on the hot pan and cook for a few seconds on medium-low heat.
- Flip it, and make an indentation using a knife or the sharp edge of a spatula to prevent puffing. Once the bottom is cooked, fold the roti on the pan and cook until golden brown on both sides.
» Prepare Churma
- Remove the cooked roti from the heat and place the hot roti on a kitchen tissue or napkin. Crush the hot roti to break it.
- Place the crushed roti in a mortar and crush it using a pestle into a coarse texture. Add about 2 tablespoons of ghee to it.
- Next, add 2 tablespoons of sugar/jaggery powder (or to taste), and 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder. Mix well using a spoon. Ensure the sugar or jaggery melts and coats the churma evenly. Adjust sweetness according to your preference.
» Serve
- Transfer the Roti Churma to a mixing bowl. Garnish it with chopped nuts and enjoy your Roti Churma as a sweet snack or dessert.
RECIPE NOTES
- Customize the recipe by adding more ghee or adjusting the sweetness according to your taste.
- Cook the roti on medium-low heat to ensure even cooking.
- Crumble the roti when it is hot.
- Optionally, add a dash of rose water or saffron for additional flavor.
