Ingredients
-
Berries: Since I’ve added a mixed berry smoothie, I have used a combination of frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries, and frozen wild blueberries for making this smoothie. For a different color and taste, you can use any frozen mixed berries of your choice. And if you want to make this smoothie using just one type of berry, feel free to do that.
-
Yogurt: I have used plain Greek yogurt for creaminess and added protein. You can also use vanilla Greek Yogurt or any variety of your favorite yogurt.
-
Bananas: These are added to naturally sweeten the smoothie and make it creamy.
-
Milk: I have used regular milk here, but you can use any kind of milk you like, such as unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk. They all taste good in this recipe.
-
Vanilla extract: I have added a splash of vanilla extract for a subtle hint to boost the overall flavor. However, adding vanilla extract is totally optional.
How to Make a Berry Smoothie
Making a berry smoothie at home is very simple and straightforward.
Add frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries, frozen blueberries, and bananas to a blender. Also add chilled Greek yogurt, chilled milk, and vanilla extract to the blender and blend it up until smooth. Your berry smoothie is ready; pour it into serving glasses and enjoy it chilled.
Variations
Smoothie Bowl:
Love a smoothie bowl? Then you can turn this smoothie into a smoothie bowl by reducing the amount of milk, or you can also completely omit it if you have a high-power blender.
Transfer it to a bowl, and top it with fresh berries and fruits, seeds, granola, and a drizzle of honey. You can top it with whatever you have handy. Your super delicious Berry Smoothie bowl is ready to be enjoyed!
Dairy-Free Version:
To make a vegan berry smoothie, swap regular milk with dairy-free milk alternatives such as almond or coconut milk. Also, replace Greek yogurt with vegan yogurt.
Single Berry Smoothie:
I used mixed berries for this smoothie, but you can also use any one variety of berry to make this smoothie.
Add-Ins:
To make this smoothie more nourishing and filling, you can add any of these add-ins:
Quick oats, ground flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds.
Serving Suggestions
They taste so good when served fresh right after blending. You can serve them as a sweet breakfast or a quick after-school snack.
You can also serve them for brunch along with healthy snacks like pistachio date cups, healthy date bars, cream cheese stuffed dates, carrot cheese chips, and almond flour crackers.
Storing Suggestions
This smoothie tastes best when served fresh. However, if you have leftovers, you can keep them in the refrigerator for up to one day. The smoothie might separate after storing, so just give it a shake right before serving.
Tips for Making the Best Berry Smoothie
-
Smooth Blending: Start low and slow on your blender, then kick it up to high for the smoothest texture.
-
Protein Boost: For an added protein boost, you can add 1-2 scoops of vanilla protein powder.
-
Seeds: You can add some chia seeds or flax seeds to this smoothie if you want more nutrients.
-
Bananas: They are the source of sweetness in this smoothie and give it a creamy texture. So, make sure to choose bananas that are ripe for the best taste and texture.
-
Frozen Berries: This cooling smoothie is perfect for hot days. Use only frozen berries to make this smoothie icy-cold.
-
Consistency: If your smoothie is too thick, you can adjust the consistency by adding a bit more milk to thin it out.
-
Sweetener: I did not add any additional sweetener in this recipe as my berries were really sweet. You can taste the smoothie, and if you prefer sweeter smoothies and your berries are not sweet, then you can add some honey or maple syrup.
-
More Bananas: You can add more bananas if you like a creamier, sweeter, and richer smoothie.
