Tip 4. Always serve bread chaats right after you add the toppings. Or else the bread would absorb all the liquids and the chaat would turn soggy.
Tip 5. For making bread dahi chaat, you can also use boiled or canned chickpeas.
Tip 6. If you don’t have sev, then you can also use fried, roasted, or chili peanuts.
Tip 7. I have used nylon sev, feel free to use any sev or bhujiya of your choice.
Tip 8. If you don’t have tamarind chutney, then you can also use tomato ketchup.
Tip 9. When making chaat, make sure to keep all the ingredients handy. This way, making chaat will be easier and you won’t miss out on any important ingredients.
Tip 10. For seasoning, I have used chaat masala powder that adds a nice piquancy to chaat. If you don’t have chaat masala powder then skip it.
Tip 11. Black salt tastes best in chaats, but if you don’t have black salt then you can use any rock salt you have handy.
Tip 12. Red chili powder can be replaced with black pepper powder or cayenne pepper.
Tip 13. Roasted cumin powder adds a nice flavor to chaat recipes. If you don’t have roasted cumin powder then you easily make it at home. It takes only 5-10 minutes.
Tip 14. Roasted nuts such as almonds and cashews can also be added as a topping for a nutty crunch.
Tip 15. You can also garnish chaat with some pomegranate arils.
Tip 16. In the Bread Chana Chaat recipe, I used plain yogurt. This is because it balances the spiciness of the dish and adds a refreshing and cooling effect. However, you can also serve it without yogurt.

- Place bread slices on a chopping board and cut them into small cubes using a knife.
- Transfer the bread pieces to a plate and sprinkle them with some chaat masala powder, black salt, and red chili powder.
- Toss well until all spices coat the bread pieces. Keep them aside.
- Heat a pan over medium-low heat. Brush or spray it with some oil.
- Once the pan is hot, arrange bread cubes in a single layer.
- Spray or brush the bread pieces with some oil.
- After that, toast them for 2 minutes on each side or until they light brown and crispy.
- Once done, remove the bread pieces from the pan and toast the rest of the bread pieces. Once done, remove them from the pan and set them aside to cool completely.
- Arrange the cooled toasted bread pieces on a serving plate in a single layer.
- Slightly break the potatoes with your hands and then place them on top of bread pieces.
- Top with chopped onions and chopped tomatoes.
