Meet my all time favorite sandwich, ‘Grilled Spiced Potato Sandwich’.
It’s my love since childhood. I was so damn crazy about this sandwich. And I still am. 🙂
This sandwich was always a fail-safe for my Mom. Whenever she was uncertain about the breakfast preparation, she doubtlessly looked up to these sandwiches. Because she knew all along that everyone in the family would love these spicy sandwiches.
And these beauties you see here, always lived up to her expectations. Believe me, they never ever disappointed her. That’s why she was always confident about these! 🙂
My mom makes this for her loved ones. And now I make this for my family. My husband and my little girl agree that these sandwiches are AWESOME. Yeah!
For such a fussy eater as my little girl is, these sandwiches are very well approved by her too. What a relief. 🙂

Sometimes Abhishek craves for these sandwiches on a random day. But that’s not very surprising, and do you know why? Of course he can crave anytime. But the surprising thing is that he craves for these sandwiches at the time of dinners, and not for the usual breakfasts. 😉

Spiced potato sandwiches are one of the most common and delicious Indian sandwiches. They are so quick and easy. Spiced potato sandwiches aka aloo masala sandwiches are stuffed with spicy potato filling. These sandwiches are indeed very amazing, with so much flavor!
For making these delicious bites, you only need some boiled potatoes, some spices, butter, lettuce, cheese and bread slices. Usually, people make these sandwiches with white bread. But I always make these with brown or whole grain bread.
You can use any of your preferred bread slices for making these sandwiches. But if you ask me, the whole grain bread is better. A couple of days old bread would also work fine.
These sandwiches make great filler breakfast, brunch or snack. You can bank on them anytime.
I have used regular toast cheese for these, but you can opt for vegan cheese for vegan version. That way it will be totally vegan.
Generally, people don’t add any lettuce and cheese slices to these, but I love it. So I added them.
I named these sandwiches as ‘Grilled Cheese Spiced Potato Wholegrain Sandwich with Cheese Dip’, as I have made a few changes and added a couple of new ingredients to these sandwiches.
Anyway, this ‘Grilled Cheese Spiced Potato Wholegrain Sandwich with Cheese Dip’ is something you need to try once. Yes, I said once. The reason is that I am very sure that if you try these once, you will never stop making them.
They are healthy, colorful, flavorful and so full of deliciousness. All in all, they are super good.
And also easy to make and really palatable. And healthy too! Nummy.
Oh, I love spicy food. So for me these sandwiches top all others. And if you also love spicy food, I HIGHLY recommend adding some red chili powder or cayenne pepper. Like, a good amount – about 1 tsp!

Apply some butter on both pieces of bread slices. And then the potato filling, and a slice of cheese and lettuce and top with another bread. Roast these in sandwich toaster or a grilling pan and under the broiler. And that’s it. DONE.

Take a mixing bowl, and add mashes potato, garam masala, chopped green chili, chopped cilantro, red chili powder, black salt, chaat masala, dried mango powder, chopped onions to it. Mix well to make a mixture.
Place 2 slices of bread on a flat surface, apply butter on both slices. Spoon 2 tbsp of potato stuffing on top of the slice
and spread it evenly on the bread slice. Top with cheese slice. Add some lettuce. Cover the filling with the another slice of bread. Gently press the sandwich down with your palm. Keep aside while you preheat the grill pan or sandwich toaster.
Lightly brush the sandwich with softened butter or little cooking oil.
Arrange the sandwich in the preheated sandwich toaster. Using a spatula, press the sandwich down so it grills evenly, if using grill.
Once grilled on one side, flipped the sandwich and grill on the other side until crisp and lightly browned from both the sides. Repeat the same with rest of the bread slices.
Serve the Grilled Cheese Spiced Potato Wholegrain Sandwich for breakfast, brunch or snack along with some cheese dip and your favorite beverage. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS
For Grilled Cheese Spiced Potato Sandwich
- potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed - 4
- garam masala powder - ¼ tsp
- green chili, chopped - 1
- cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- red chili powder, or cayenne pepper - 1 tsp
- himalayan black salt, as per taste
- chaat masala - 1 tsp
- onions, finely chopped - 2
- bread slice - 8
- cheese singles - 4
- lettuce
- dried mango powder - 1 tsp
- cilantro leaves, chopped - 2 tbsp
- butter
INSTRUCTIONS:
Make Stuffing //
- Take a mixing bowl, and add mashes potato, garam masala, chopped green chili, chopped cilantro, red chili powder, black salt, chat masala, dried mango powder, chopped onions to it. Mix well to make a mixture.
Assemble The Sandwich //
- Place 2 slices of bread on a flat surface, apply butter on both slices. Spoon 2 tbsp of potato stuffing on top of the slice and spread it evenly on the bread slice. Top with cheese slice. Add some lettuce.
- Cover the filling with the another slice of bread.
- Gently press the sandwich down with your palm. Keep aside while you preheat the grill pan or sandwich toaster.
