Ingredients to make a blueberry pie smoothie

You will only need a few handfuls of ingredients to make this delicious dessert like a breakfast smoothie. Here is what you’ll need:

  • Blueberries – I have used a combination of fresh and frozen blueberries because I just love the texture and taste and color when you combine both. Feel free to choose only fresh or only frozen ones.

Using only frozen ones is best for the winters when fresh blueberries are out of season.

  • Banana - I have added frozen banana chunks to creamy thickness. For a thick texture, I would recommend using frozen bananas only if you are using fresh blueberries.

  • Oats - Adding oats to this smoothie adds structure to this smoothie and gives it a pie-like taste. I have used rolled oats here, but you can also use quick or instant oats in this recipe. You can also swap oats with graham crackers.

  • Yogurt – I used plain non-fat greek yogurt for making this smoothie. Feel free to use full-fat greek yogurt here.

  • Milk – Unsweetened vanilla almond milk tastes best in this smoothie. However, you can also use regular milk. Just add some vanilla extract if using plain dairy milk.

  • Sweetener – I have added honey because my little one prefers honey over maple syrup. You can use maple syrup or agave nectar here.

  • Flavors - I used about 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Adding cinnamon to this smoothie gives it a pie-like flavor.

Love oats for breakfast? Then you would surely enjoy this Rose Overnight Oats, and Blueberry Overnight Oats.

Variation

  • Berries — You can make a mixed berry smoothie by swapping 1 cup of frozen blueberries with mixed berries such as frozen strawberries and frozen raspberries.

  • Blueberry Peach Smoothie — If you have fresh and ripe peaches, then you can add 1-2 peaches to this smoothie to make it more summerish.

  • Greens — If you like greens in your smoothies, then you can also add a handful of frozen spinach or kale to this blueberry smoothie.

  • Nut butter — To make it richer in healthy fats and for added proteins, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter or any other nut butter of your choice.

  • Nuts & seeds — If you like nuts and seeds, then add some chopped or toasted nuts such as almonds, cashews, pistachios, or pecans. You can also add flax seeds, melon seeds, or sunflower seeds.

  • Coconut Milk – Thick coconut milk tastes extremely good in blueberry smoothies. You can swap almond milk with coconut milk and greek yogurt with coconut yogurt.

  • Chocolate powder – Chocolate goes really well with blueberries. So if you like this delightful combination, then add about 1 tablespoon of drinking chocolate powder to this smoothie to take it to the next level.

  • Blueberry smoothie (no banana) – To make No banana blueberry smoothie, omit the bananas and follow the rest of the recipe.

  • Blueberry smoothie recipe without yogurt – Replace the yogurt with the same amount of milk or water.

Storage

Generally, smoothies taste best made and consumed fresh. If you have some leftover smoothies, then store it in a sealed container/jar and store for up to 1 day in the refrigerator. After that, it loses its texture and freshness. Just stir the smoothie before drinking.

Tips and tricks to make the Best Blueberry Pie Smoothie
