Fruit Salad Ingredients

Fruits are the star of this recipe, so to whip up a delicious fruit salad with the best mix of flavors and textures, you will need a different variety of fruits.

  • Fruits: For making this salad, you can use any seasonal fruits of your choice. I have used apples, bananas, mango, kiwis, orange, blueberries, black & green grapes, raspberries, and pomegranate arils for making this salad. You can take out any fruits depending on what is in season or what you like best.

  • Fruit Salad Dressing: For the citrus dressing, you will need lemon juice, orange juice, honey and sea salt  (optional).

How to Make Fruit Salad

Making the fruit salad is very easy and simple.

  • Chop Fruits: To make this salad, you need to prep your fruits by simply rinsing your fruits, peeling and chopping or dicing them.

  • Make dressing: To make dressing, add honey, lemon juice, orange juice and salt to a mixing bowl and whisk until well combined.

  • Assemble Salad: To make this salad, add the chopped fruits to a large mixing bowl, drizzle the citrus dressing over the fruit bowl and toss well until well combined. Chilled for 30 minutes  to let the flavors mingle. Your delicious fruit salad is ready to be served.

Variations

Nuts and seeds

For more nutrients and crunch you can also add  a sprinkle of nuts or seeds like chia seeds, toasted flax seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, or pecans.

Sweetener

If you are into a vegan diet, you can swap honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.

Citrus fruits

You can use any citrus fruits for making dressing. Other citrus fruits that taste in this dressing are, mandarin, lemons, grapefruits, pomelos, and limes.

Herbs

I have garnished this salad with mint leaves to give it freshness and contrast. You can also use other herbs such as basil leaves, parsley, or lemon herbs.

Zest

For a zesty touch, you add 1-2 teaspoons of lime zest or lemon zest to the dressing.

Creamy fruit salad

To make creamy and rich fruit salad, you can swap citrus dressing with yogurt dressing or cream dressing.

Serving Suggestions

This fruit salad tastes best when served chilled. It is perfect for dessert, a sweet breakfast, as a light lunch, or as a side for dinner. You can also serve it for brunch along with other fruity treats like Fruit Cream, Fruit Rabri, Fruit Custard, Sago Fruit Custard, Vermicelli Fruit Custard - Semiya Custard, and chocolate Covered Kiwi.

Storage Suggestions

Fruit salads are best when eaten within a day, as the fruits can become soggy after that. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge. The refrigeration process will keep the salad fresh and tasty.

Important Tips and Tricks to Make the Best Fruit Salad

  1. Fruits: For the best texture and flavor, choosing the right fruit is crucial. Use fruits that are ripe but still firm. Avoid overripe fruits as they can become too mushy when mixed, and avoid underripe fruits as they won’t be as sweet or juicy.

  2. Chopping: Try to keep the fruit pieces similarly sized; this will make the salad easier to eat.

  3. Chilling: Let the salad chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This resting time allows the flavors to meld better.

  4. Sweeten It: You can adjust the amount of sweetener in the dressing according to your taste preference. If your fruits are really sweet, you might add less sweetener.

  5. Try Different Dressings: If you don’t like citrus dressing, then you can try other dressings such as pomegranate juice dressing, whipped cream dressing, or yogurt dressing.

  6. Flavors: You can also add some flavor to this salad by adding a touch of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

  7. Add-ons: Adding nuts, seeds, or even granola can give your salad a nice crunch and make it more filling.

  8. Use Seasonal Fruits: Always opt for seasonal fruits for the best taste.

  9. Citrus juice: You can also use fresh lime juice instead of lemon juice.

  10. Honey Lime Dressing: You can also serve this salad with honey lime dressing. To make this dressing, instead of lemon juice use fresh lime juice, a bit of lime zest and skip orange juice from the dressing.
